Gniezno District is localized in the middle-west part of Poland in the area of Wielkopolska Province and takes area of about 1254km2.
It belongs to the largest districts in province according to consideration of the number inhabitants and the area as well. Just over 140 thousand inhabitants make 4,2% of total number of province's inhabitants and that places the district on the fourth place. Density of population in the district (113 peopl./km2) is the same as an average density of population in the VOIVODSHIP.
